Akhtar Naraghi, a native of Iran, earned both an M.A. and Ph.D. from McGill University. Her doctoral dissertation in English literature, completed in 1992, is entitled: The Images of Women in Western and Eastern Epic Literature: An Analysis in Three Major Epics, The Shahnameh, The Iliad and The Odyssey. She taught Persian literature at McGill. Naraghi died in 2015. According to her obituary in the Montreal Gazette, she “was an impassioned believer in, and contributor to, women’s rights and social justice, and a writer of novels and verse who treasured her readership.”
