Bal Sethi was born in India and lived most of his life in the Himalayan mountain range. He earned an M.A. in English at an Indian University and worked as the head of a high school English department and school administrator. He moved to Canada in 1972. In Canada he became an ESL instructor and later a real estate agent. He is now retired.
