The Library offers a variety of study spaces to support your individual, group, and online learning needs. Whether you need a quiet area to concentrate or a space for collaboration, we’ve got you covered.
Study Spaces & Atmosphere
Individual Quiet Study (3rd, 6th, 7th, and 9th floors) – Individual study spaces provide a calm and focused environment. Noise must be kept to a minimum—no talking, whispering, or phone conversations. Individual study space is for deep concentration without distractions.
Silent Study (10th floor) – A space for complete silence. No talking or whispering is allowed, and phone use is not permitted. This is the perfect space for when you need total quiet to focus on your work.
Group Study (4th – 9th floors) – Need to work with a group? You can have low-level discussions at the tables on these floors. Keep voices soft to ensure a respectful environment for everyone. If you need privacy for your group work, please book a group study room in advance. The 8th floor also has a designated open group study area for quiet collaboration.
Online Classes – You’re welcome to participate in online classes anywhere in the Library, except on the 10th floor. Talking or video calls should be done quietly to avoid disturbing others. Headphones are a great way to keep the noise to a minimum and can be borrowed at the Circulation Desk.
Computers & Laptops
- 2nd & 3rd Floors: These floors have the most computer workstations.
- 6th Floor (LIB667A): Ideal for quiet computer work when not in use for classes or workshops.
- Laptops are available for borrowing at the Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor.

2nd Floor – Has a large number of computer workstations and the Circulation Desk, where laptops can be borrowed.
3rd Floor – Quiet Floor – Designed for individual study, and provides a peaceful environment. No talking, whispering, or phone use is allowed, allowing for focused, distraction-free work.
4th Floor – The open group study area is perfect for quiet collaboration. Discussions are allowed, but please keep them low to respect the work and study environments in the adjacent Archives & Special Collections reading rooms.
5th Floor – Quiet Floor – Bookable study rooms are ideal for group work, discussions and offer more privacy. Allows low-level talking at the tables. Be mindful of the quieter surroundings when collaborating.
6th Floor – Quiet Floor – Perfect for individual study and focused computer work (LIB667A). This is a quiet space to concentrate with minimal distractions. Bookable group study rooms are available, providing a space for private collaboration.
7th Floor – Quiet Floor – This floor is designed for group work, with low-level discussion permitted. Group study rooms are available for booking, providing a space for private collaboration.
8th Floor – The open group study area is perfect for quiet collaboration. Discussions are allowed, but please keep them low to respect the surrounding individual study seats. Bookable group study rooms are available, providing a space for private collaboration.
9th Floor – Quiet Floor – Group study rooms are available for collaboration, but please be mindful of the volume to ensure a comfortable environment for all.
10th Floor – Silent Floor – Silent study only. Talking, whispering, phone calls, and loud keyboard noise are not allowed. This is the place for complete silence and focused work.
