Fines

Fines are penalties for keeping library materials past their agreed upon return date. They are calculated by the hour or day overdue as indicated in the chart below. Failure to return an item will also result in you being charged a replacement cost for the item.

Failure to pay fines or return materials will result in the eventual loss of borrowing privileges.  If fines are not paid and overdue materials not returned by the end of the semester, marks will be withheld by the University. This measure does not prevent you from registering for courses.

Courtesy & Overdue e-mail Notices

You will receive a courtesy reminder 2 days before materials are due and again when items are 1 day late; for TMU students, staff and faculty, this notice will be sent to your TMU email account.  It is your responsibility to ensure that materials are returned or renewed on time. Once items become overdue, the Library will also e-mail overdue and fine notices.

How to Check Your Fines

To check if you have a fine, log into Your Library Account. If you have fines, the listing will indicate the title, type of fine or charge and the amount.

Fine Calculations

Daily fines accrue for each day an item is overdue, including weekends. Fines are not charged during Library closures.  If an item is more than 20 days overdue, it will be assumed to be lost and you will be charged the replacement cost of the item in addition to the fine.

How to Pay

Fines can be paid in person or by telephone at 416-979-2149.  VISA, MasterCard, American Express and OneCard are accepted. We do not accept personal cheques. Please email access@torontomu.ca for any further inquiries.
