Affiliated & External Borrowers

Note: All campus buildings (including the Library building) continue to be OneCard access only. External and Direct Borrowers may access the Library Building via the intercom at ground level. Please bring a government ID, OneCard or other university ID to present upon request.

Affiliated Borrowers

  • Application forms are available at the Circulation Desk or you can download a pdf Affiliated/External Borrower Library Card Application form
  • Individuals who volunteer or work part time at TMU may apply for affiliated borrower cards.
  • Applications have signed approval by the Dean of the Faculty and payment authorized to cover the $75 external borrower fee.
  • Affiliated borrowers may borrow 10 books at one time. No reference or reserve items may be borrowed.
  • Does not include off-campus access to the library’s electronic resources.
  • Interlibrary loans are not available.

External Borrowers

  • Application forms are available at the Circulation Desk or you can download a pdf Affiliated/External Borrower Library Card Application form
  • Individuals who are residents of Toronto GTA may apply for external borrowers’ card.
  • The fee is $75, non refundable.
  • Card is valid for a 12-month period from the date of purchase.
  • May borrow 10 books at one time. No periodicals, reference, reserve items or audio-visual materials may be borrowed.
  • Does not include access to TMU computers, wifi and printing services.
  • Does not include access to the library’s electronic resources.
  • Interlibrary loans are not available.

Direct Borrowers

  • Students, Faculty and Staff from all Canadian universities (with the exception of University of Toronto undergraduate students) may apply for a Direct Borrower Card from the TMU circulation desk
  • Check the Canadian University Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement to be sure that you are eligible and have the appropriate identification from your home university and one piece of Government-issued photo I/D with address.
  • May borrow 10 items at one time with a loan period for most items of 3 weeks. No periodical or reserve items may be borrowed.
  • Interlibrary loans are not available.
  • For wifi and access to your home institution’s eresources, please check the list of participating institutions and your own institution’s Eduroam information page for configuration and login information.

Life Institute Members

To obtain a library card for borrowing from the Library print book collection, affiliated LIFE Institute members need to produce a current LIFE membership card and one piece of photo ID at the Circulation Desk. Cards are valid for the academic year.

  • Up to 10 books (no reference, reserve or audio-visual materials) may be borrowed at one time. Loan periods depend on individual items, but generally books may be borrowed for 3 weeks with up to 4 renewals.
  • Access to Free/Open Access Databases.
  • No access to the Library’s subscription electronic resources, Interlibrary Loan, Scan and Deliver service, TMU computers, wifi or printing services.
