The TMU Libraries Media Production Studio is the perfect spot for library users to capture content for their creative projects. From podcasting to still photography, video recording to live-streaming, this beginner-friendly studio space combines great technology with our helpful training staff.
The studio inventory includes:
- 1x Sony A7 iii camera with a 24-105mm lens for still and video photography
- 2x Rode Pro Wireless Microphones
- 1x wall-mounted photography backdrop screen system (white, black, and green screens can all be rolled down with staff help)
- 2x Amaran 300C Full Colour Lights with softbox
- 1x Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini video switcher
- 2x Shure MV7X Podcasting Microphones with Marantaz Sound Shield
Studio slots are limited to 2.5 hours per group. Staff require 2 business days to approve bookings and schedule the appropriate equipment resources. Rarely, bookings may be declined due to calendar conflicts or limited staff availability. If you’d like advice on using the studio space, please email or consult staff during your booking.

How to Book Studio Time
Booking the studio is easy, just follow these required steps:
- Submit a booking request
Library users who have successfully passed the Studio Users’ knowledge quiz can request studio time at our Booking Site. Staff will then review your booking request within 2 business days. If you’ve indicated that you’d like help using the equipment, we’ll be in touch with you via email to review your equipment needs.
- Meet in SLC 308
The day of your booking, check in at the front desk area in SLC 308. We’ll bring you upstairs to the studio, confirm the state of the room with you, and answer any of your technical questions.
Please watch your email inbox for the required booking check-in procedures. All bookings will expire if you do not check in within 15 minutes of your scheduled start time. - Record your content in SLC 508
Remember, your studio time is limited, so please plan your session accordingly. All content captured must adhere to the Library Code of Conduct and Equipment Lending policies.
- Check out of SLC 508
When your booking ends, you must complete a brief sign-out process with DME staff. You can call us from the room phone by dialling 553524 or by dialling 416-979-5000 ext. 553524, or by coming to SLC 308. Do not leave before checking out.

While the Studio support single camera product, users are welcome to connect their own video sources to any of the additional 3 HDMI inputs on our HD video switcher, with green screen keying support. Full specifications.

Shure MV7X Podcasting Microphone

Used in conjunction with our podcasting microphones, this portable vocal reflection filter will give your voiceovers a professional sound quality. Full specifications.
Dell XPS Computer
The Studio features a powerful Dell XPS computer with the Full Adobe CC 2023 suite, Audacity, Adobe Premiere, and Adobe Audition. While users can’t install software, they can run web application in Google Chrome.

Studio Rules and Practices
- The Media Production Studio can be used by TMU Libraries users for coursework, personal projects, and Zone Learning and/or startup projects. Other use cases should be reviewed with booking staff.
- Booking requests of up to 2.5 hours should be submitted for review at least two business days before the desired time slot.
- Your Studio session must respect the Library Code of Conduct and Equipment Lending policies.
- The SLC 508 space is intended for up to ten occupants. Outside furniture may not be moved into the space without staff permission.
- Our training staff are here to help! Pease review your technical needs with check-in staff. We’ll prepare the necessary equipment, collect any required cables, and train you on how to use them for your project.
- The booking creator is responsible for the room, including anyone that they let in. Fines for damaged, lost, or stolen items will be issued per TMU Libraries’ Lost and Damaged Materials Policy.
- Users must check in 10-15 minutes before their booking ends. Call staff using the room phone – it dials our helpdesk anytime you pick it up – and we will come over to begin the required exist checklist.
- Users must pass a required studio knowledge quiz before they make their first booking request.
