This role has a specific focus on building connections between the DME Lab and TMU Libraries users, especially groups that have been underrepresented in creative technology spaces. TMU Libraries strongly encourages applications from students who may not see themselves or their peers represented in traditional makerspaces.
This is a technology adjacent role (read: you needn’t be a technology power user or wizard). If you are enthusiastic about learning and sharing back in purposeful ways, the DME Lab will support you with the hands-on training you need to excel in this role.

The Digital Media Experience (“DME”) is hiring DME Advising Specialists to staff the Libraries’ DME Lab, a space where TMU students and staff access equipment, training and peer experts in order to support their creative, technical, and academic projects.
In this role, you will:
- Lead in-person, skill-based workshops with a beginner focus.
- Support TMU creators with creative technology training and technical project guidance.
- Plan and lead a series of informal making drop-ins built around loose themes such as mending & DIY culture, DIY musical instruments,…
- Build campus awareness of lab resources through student group collaborations, class visits, and lab tours.
- Propose and fully complete projects that improve the DME lab experience for Library patrons.
This is an ideal opportunity for a current TMU student with a track record of completing creative or technical projects, strong group communication skills, and the ability to work independently.
Please note, given the specialized nature of our library service point, schedules must align to the shifts described in our application form.
