If you have a personalized iGoogle or NetVibes home page, you can add a Ryerson Library catalogue search gadget to your page. Install your gadget using these easy instructions.
Springer e-books
The Ryerson Library now provides access to over 12,000 ebooks from 2005-2008 via Springer e-books. The collection incorporates a wide variety of subject areas including: Architecture & Design, Behavioral Science, Biomedical and Life Science, Business & Economics, Chemistry and Material Science, Computer Science, Earth & Environmental Science, Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences and Law, Math & Statistics, Medicine, Physics & Astronomy, and Professional Computing and Web Design.
Improved Off-Campus Access to Library e-resources
Starting in the middle of December, the Library will be changing to a new method of authenticating off-campus users who want to use the Library’s electronic resources (articles, ebooks, journals, etc.)
The new system will allow users to access e-resources by entering their my.ryerson username and password instead of using the existing system of entering name, barcode and PIN number
New authentication screen:
Off-campus users who are already in Blackboard will not be required to re-authenticate when accessing Library resources.
You will still need your barcode and PIN for access to your Library record to renew books, check your holds and track your reading history.
Starting in mid-December, the Library will begin making the necessary changes to its web pages and catalogue to accommodate this new system. This will mean that for a short period of time you may encounter both methods of authentication. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The current authentication system will continue to function until the summer of 2008 to allow faculty members sufficient time to update any links that they may have in Blackboard. Instructions for revising links are available on the Library website.
If you are off-campus, you can preview the new system by connecting to Canadian Newsstand.

More Laptops Available
The Library now has 60 wireless-enabled laptops available for students to borrow. Laptops may be borrowed from the Circulation Desk for 4 hours. The first time you borrow a laptop, you will need to bring a completed copy of our Laptop Loan Agreement form to the Circulation Desk. More information can be found on our Laptop Loan pages.
The Library and Facebook
Search the Ryerson Library from your Facebook account. The Ryerson Library has developed a Facebook application that allows you to search the Library catalogue and view Library web pages from within Facebook. To do this check the Ryerson U Facebook application instructions.
Scan Documents in the Library
Two scanners (Microtek ScanMaker i900) are now available in the Library. They are located next to the printers in the Information Commons. Documents can be scanned using the Microtek ScanWizard Pro v7.0 software which is loaded on both PCs connected to the scanners.
Colour Printing Now Available
Colour printing is now available in the Library’s Information Commons. To print in colour, select LIB272 Colour Laser from the list of available printers. Colour prints cost 50 cents a page.
Longer Laptop Loans
Due to popular demand, the loan period for laptops has been increased to four hours from three. In the near future additional laptops will be added to this programme.
Track Your Reading History
Want to be able to look back and see what you have read or checked out of the Ryerson Library in the past? Now there is a new option available under “Check Your File” that allows you to save your Reading History.
To set up this feature:
- Log into your Library Account using Check Your File.
- Click on “My Reading History” in the left column.
- Click on “Turn on Reading History” on the right.
After you enable your Reading History, every item that you check out from that point on will be recorded even after the item has been returned. Normally the system does not retain this information. By turning on your Reading History you are giving permission for the data to be retained.
At any time you can delete any or all of the titles in your Reading History. To discontinue Reading History Collection completely, clear all the titles from your history then click “Turn Off Reading History“.
Borrow a Laptop!
The Library now has 30 wireless-enabled laptops available for borrowing from the Circulation Desk. Laptops may be borrowed for 3 hours while the Library is open. The first time you borrow a laptop, you will need to bring a completed copy of our Laptop Loan Agreement form to the Circulation Desk. More information can be found on our Laptop Loan pages.
