Copyright Workshops

For Faculty

Copyright Sessions are bookable. Please email copyrt@torontomu.ca if you would like a session for your faculty to discuss the copyright and teaching. Regular visits to individual faculties are also set up via individual Dean’s offices and/or Department Chairs.

Copyright Compliance at TMU

As a TMU instructor, you need to learn about the ways to deliver your course readings in a copyright compliant way.  This session will discuss how you can use the Library’s Course Reading service when you use copyright-protected works and how to apply the Toronto Metropolitan University Fair Dealing Guideline.

For Graduate Students

Canadian Copyright Essentials for Graduate Students

Canada’s Copyright Act protects both creators and users of copyrighted materials. As a graduate student you are both a creator and a user of copyrighted material. Issues that will be discussed will be who owns the intellectual property of work you do as a graduate student,  how to comply with and check copyright requirements for your thesis submission, and what you should know about copyright as a teaching assistant. Using practical examples, this workshop will provide a brief history of copyright in Canada, a summary of recent changes, as well as guidance for the use of copyright materials in your research and teaching.  Learn what you need to know about copyright, fair dealing and Canada’s changing copyright environment.

If you are a graduate student or instructor and would like to meet about either theses you are supervising or your own thesis preparation, please email: copyrt@torontomu.ca
