Do you need access to GIS tools for your coursework or research? TMU Libraries supports access to ESRI’s suite of software (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online) and free open-source solutions. Access to software applications and GIS specialist support is available to all members of the TMU community in our GIS and Data Labs which feature 19 high performance workstations.
Access ArcGIS Pro (for installation on personal computers) and ArcGIS Online
NOTE: TMU has an educational site license with ESRI which provides access to ArcGIS Pro desktop software (for installation on personal computers) and access to web applications through ArcGIS Online. Access to the ESRI suite of software is available to students, staff and faculty from the following contributing departments: Geography & Environmental Studies, Civil Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, Retail Management and Chemistry & Biology.

- Login – Go to Personal account
- Go to Microsoft MFA. Ensure MFA is enabled
- If it is not enabled, please set it up and follow the prompts
3 – Once logged in, go to your name on the top-right and go to “My Settings” | Licenses | ArcGIS Pro – Download
4 – Once you have installed and opened ArcGIS Pro, login with your @torontomu credentials to begin using the software.
ESRI Training
Once you have created an ArcGIS Online account, use your torontomu log in credentials when prompted to begin using the ESRI Academy.

QGIS – A full-featured, cross-platform GIS with a vast plug-in ecosystem for mapping, analysis, and cartographic design—completely licence-free.
GRASS GIS – An advanced geospatial engine for raster modelling, geostatistics, and environmental simulation, often used alongside QGIS.
Whitebox GAT / Whitebox Tools – A lightweight toolkit focused on terrain, LiDAR, and hydrological processing, ideal for research workflows.
OSGeoLive – A bootable USB/DVD image that lets you test-drive 50+ open-source GIS and web-mapping applications without installing anything.
