Law Library Orientation [In Person]
Law Research Assistant Workshop Series
Date: May 9
Time: 11 a.m.
This workshop will provide an orientation to the Law Library, including key resources, how to develop a research plan, how to use nearby libraries, and how to get help. The goal of this workshop is to set you up for success in your research assistantship and show you what supports are available.
Note: This workshop is scheduled in person at the Law Library Reading Room, POD 484. Light refreshments will be served.
Secondary Sources
Law Research Assistant Workshop Series

Time: 1 p.m.
This workshop will offer a refresher of secondary sources and give you a chance to explore and practice more advanced skills. These will include finding specialized journals, using indexes, accessing conference materials, and using non-legal resources.
Case Law
Law Research Assistant Workshop Series

This workshop will offer case law research skills that are more advanced than build and expand on what you have learned before, including strategies for finding decisions, understanding parallel citations, and noting up. It will provide students the chance to practice their case law research skills.
Advanced Database Navigation

Have you been struggling with a legal database and want to know if there is a better way to navigate it? This workshop will cover several major legal databases and show you how to use their best features and get around their worst ones.
Zotero Citation Management
Law Research Assistant Workshop Series

This workshop will offer an overview of the citation management tool Zotero. What is citation management, you may ask? It is software that will help you track, organize, and generate citations, saving you time and mental energy. This workshop has been very popular with students and supervising faculty in the past.
Advanced Searching

This workshop will provide an overview of advanced search strategies using legal databases. At the end of this workshop students will have practiced using skills that they can apply to all of their searching going forward and have practical solutions for searching on concepts related to their current research project.

This workshop will provide more detail about how to find legislation and related documents, including bills, debates, committee minutes, and government documents.
