Lab Description
The Geospatial Map and Data Centre (GMDC) is located on the main floor of the Toronto Metropolitan University Libraries, within the Ronald D. Besse Information and Learning Commons. The GIS & Data Instruction Lab and adjacent Research Consultation Area feature 19 high performance workstations to support interactive learning. Each station runs a full software suite: ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, SPSS, R Studio, FME, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, and more — giving students and faculty immediate access to mapping, analysis, and design tools for course work and advanced research. In addition, the GIS Specialist is located in the Research Consultation Area for Drop-in assistance or consultation by appointment.
Lab Policies
To maintain a productive, collaborative environment, the GIS & Data Labs follow the University Library’s Code of Conduct. The space is food and drink free, and users are expected to keep conversations and phone use discreet so others can concentrate on study and research. Workstations operate on a first come, first served basis, with priority given to GIS, statistical, and data centric tasks. Saving seats or monopolizing equipment is not permitted. If you encounter disruptive behaviour, technical issues, or accessibility concerns, please alert GMDC staff or Library Security immediately. We request that lab users follow the Toronto Metropolitan University Library & Archives – Code of Conduct.
