{"id":126,"date":"2017-06-07T18:38:25","date_gmt":"2017-06-07T18:38:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/library.ryerson.ca\/open\/?p=126"},"modified":"2017-07-18T23:27:22","modified_gmt":"2017-07-18T23:27:22","slug":"126","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/library.torontomu.ca\/open\/2017\/06\/07\/126\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the Working Groups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are four working groups working to support the primary project goal which is to:<\/p>\n<p><b>Build a prototype open publishing infrastructure to integrate and extend the BC Open Textbook Library that will be migrated from BCcampus to eCampusOntario in May 2017 with a project completion date of Aug. 31, 2017<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The four working streams to support this objective which are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A working Pressbook prototype with enhanced features<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Integrate an open source repository that will support the open textbook platform and other content<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Community building and knowledge mobilization<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Learning module authoring and distribution prototyping<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The Pressbooks Working Group is focused on:<\/b><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Design<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Developing and implementing a customized\/branded design for an eCampusOntario Open Textbook authoring system<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Improvements to the Open Textbook catalog design and implementation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Improvements to standard Pressbooks web-based \u201cbook\u201d interface<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Custom template (web, pdf, epub\/mobi) for eCampusOntario<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cloning Books &amp; Collections<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This project will develop a federated approach to \u201ccloning\u201d openly licensed Pressbooks books \u2014 so that any Pressbooks user, or any Pressbooks system can easily \u201cclone\u201d a book (or collection of books) from one system to another, making it easy to modify, remix and reuse books, and collections. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Makes significant improvements to metadata schemas and APIs of the underlying open source Pressbooks system. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Infrastructure Working Group is focused on:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Integrate an open source repository that will support the open textbook platform and other content<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Evaluate available open source repository systems and consult with BCcampus and other Canadian institutions regarding their OER repositories<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Install, configure and customize the functions of the selected repository system to meet the requirements of open textbooks and other types of OER content Develop a customized\/branded design for an eCampusOntario open textbook library<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Investigate and integrate a Single Sign On (SSO) authentication system (e.g. CAS and Shibboleth) for the selected repository system<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Integrate the selected repository system with Pressbooks<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Extend repository to support possible identified requirements that are not supported out of box<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Communications Working Group is focused on:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Engaging in ongoing promotion, information sharing and leadership activities across Ontario to support Open Education Resources (OER) skill-building and development <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Speaking at post-secondary events dedicated to open learning content development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">OER working teams and experts actively engaged in community- and foundation-building activities across the higher education community.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Consult with representation from OCUL, OCLS, University of Waterloo, and Queen\u2019s University<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Consultation with upcoming OER and Library association meetings to include focus groups<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Establish opportunities to receive iterative feedback from representative community partners through existing grassroots communities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The Learning Module Working Group is focused on:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Complete an environmental scan of existing open source learning module authoring systems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Consult with learning design and faculty support communities in Ontario (OUCEL and College Technology Support)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Draft specifications for a learning module authoring and repository system to include:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Exploration of common format for distribution.
