Library Space Survey

New Services for Persons with Disabilities

The Library would like to introduce a new librarian to the Ryerson
community. Kelly Dermody has been hired to fill an 8-month contract
librarian position as Coordinator of Library Services for Persons with
Disabilities. Funding for this position has been provided by Student
Services and the University Library. She has been hired to coordinate
the acquisition of materials in alternative formats for students
registered with the Access Centre, provide library instruction, and to
write a report on “best practice” in other universities, so that we
can establish an appropriate level of staffing for this service on an
on-going basis. Kelly can be reached at 979-5000, x4120, or at
kdermody@ryerson.ca. Her office is located in LIB395 on the 3rd floor of the Library next to the Adaptive Technology Rooms.

RAMSS

Toronto Metropolitan University has implemented a new online registration system called RAMSS to replace the old ROWS system. RAMSS is accessible through your Blackboard account. Step by step instructions for accessing RAMSS are available from Student Services. A help function is also available within RAMSS. If you are having trouble with RAMSS, please email sservice@ryerson.ca

Improvements to Keyword Searching in the Catalogue

On Wednesday July 20, the Library will install Advanced Keyword Searching on the Library catalogue. This will:

  • improve search response time
  • allow proximity searching (near, within)
  • provide segment searching (keyword in author, title, subject)
  • allow a choice of sort order (date, alphabetical, relevance)
  • enable pre-search limiting

While the re-indexing occurs (from 11:00 am until approximately 3:00 pm on Wednesday) keyword searching will not be available in the catalogue. We apologize for the inconvenience.

ARTstor

ARTstor is a digital collection of over 300,000 images and their associated catalogue data. This resource covers the fields of architecture, painting, sculpture, photography, decorative arts and design. One of ARTstor’s primary objectives is to provide scholars, teachers, and students with ongoing access to a large and expanding library of digital images.

New Elsevier Content
