Ryerson Library Resources and Services Update

The Ryerson Library has moved academic services and supports online.

Many services and most resources remain available to students, faculty, instructors and staff, as well, core academic and SRC support services are available virtually.

Reference and research help is available through virtual reference, email, and through online appointments. See specific hours of operation under Student Academic Resources and Services.

Access to all online resources including ebooks, ejournals, data, streaming video/media  and more, remains available 24/7.

Borrowing and Lending Services

Rogers and Fido data offer closed: The temporary unlimited data plan, offered by Rogers to Ryerson students with Rogers or Fido phone plans, closed March 26, 2020.

The Library acknowledges with gratitude the generous support of Rogers, which assisted many Ryerson students during this particularly stressful end of term

Laptops and Mobile Internet Hotspots

Mobile Internet hotspots 

Emergency 2020 winter term wifi hotspot lending:
Mobile internet hotspots borrowed to complete the 2020 winter term will have data plans disconnected as of April 30, 2020, in alignment with the end of winter term. 

Students must return mobile internet hotspots by courier to the Ryerson Library ℅ Ryerson University. A prepaid return shipping label may be requested from the Library at access@tororntomu.ca. If sending via courier is not possible, please contact Ryerson Security at 416-979-5040 to arrange a contact-free in-person return.

Spring/summer 2020 term mobile internet hotspot requests

Students enrolled in online courses are expected to have their own internet or wifi access. Students experiencing special need or hardship in this regard may submit a request form for a Library mobile internet hotspot term loan. Items for loan subject to availability. Deadline to make a request is: April 30, 12 p.m.

 

Laptops

Emergency 2020 winter term laptop lending:

Students who borrowed a laptop to complete the 2020 winter term must return it by courier to the Ryerson Library ℅ Ryerson University. A prepaid return shipping label may be requested from the Library at access@tororntomu.ca. If sending via courier is not possible, please contact Ryerson Security at 416-979-5040 to arrange a contact-free in-person return.

Spring/summer 2020 term laptop requests: 

Students enrolled in online spring and summer courses are expected to have their own computer or laptop. Students experiencing special need or hardship may submit a request form for a Library laptop term loan. Items for loan subject to availability. Deadline to make a request is: April 30, 12 p.m.

 

Items currently on loan, including Interlibrary Loan (RACER) materials:
We are advising that students with items currently on loan keep them until further notice. Fines will be waived.

Returning items on loan:
For students who are leaving the country and need to return items to the Library, please contact Ryerson Security at 416-979-5040 to arrange a contact-free in-person return.

Print materials:
Access to print materials will not be available until further notice. Please contact your Subject Librarian, or refdesk@tororntomu.ca for assistance with alternate electronic resources.

Online Resources:

Textbooks
Students can now access a number of textbooks for a limited time through VitalSource Helps, at no charge. To access, create an account using your Ryerson email address. With a student account, users can search book titles and “borrow” up to seven items until April 30.

Course Readings
The Ryerson Library provides customized online course readings for many courses. These are prepared based on instructor requests and are typically provided for access at the start of term.

Electronic Resources
The Ryerson Library subscribes to a wide array of electronic resources (articles, e-books, data, video). To access these resources, you must be a Ryerson student (full or part time), staff or faculty member with an active my.ryerson account. These are available remotely 24/7.

Interlibrary Loans (RACER)
Interlibrary loans are available for e-delivery only. Requests submitted in RACER
are being monitored regularly by staff. Please email any questions to racer@tororntomu.ca.

Online Articles and Databases
Access electronic articles and journals.

Research Guides
Research guides can assist you with finding online articles and books applicable to your topic and courses.

Citation Guide
The citation guide provides assistance properly citing all material in various citation styles like APA, plus a list of free citation management programs .

Faculty Resources and Services

Supplementary Course Material Guide
A supplementary course material guide has been developed to provide information on the Library’s online educational materials (ebooks, videos, OER and more). It also includes a curated list of alternate educational resources available to faculty. Access to all online resources is available 24/7.

Subject Librarians
Contact your Subject Librarian for assistance with information / digital literacy instruction or locating online course materials, including but not limited too: readings, data sets, videos, podcasts and streaming services.

Course readings and E-reserve services
Online course readings are prepared prior to every semester. Faculty and instructors should submit requests for upcoming terms.
