What’s New @ the Library for the Fall Term

We hope everyone is having a smooth transition to the Fall term.  Here are some new changes that have recently taken place in the Library, to keep you in the loop:

  • Addition of Library Student Guides – in response to student feedback, the library has secured funding to hire Library Student Guides, who will roam throughout the Library and the SLC to help ensure a consistent and excellent experience for students studying in both spaces.  In addition to maintaining our book stacks and assisting with wayfinding and light troubleshooting in the library, they will be roaming in pairs throughout both the library and the SLC to help maintain a clean and quiet environment for our students.  They can be identified by bright red Ask Me buttons – feel free to ask for their assistance next time you are studying the Library/SLC.
  • Faster login time on desktop computers – you should experience a much quicker login time when using desktops in the Library.  This has been a frustration for students over the past few years, and we hope this improvement provides a better user experience for our students
  • The opening of the Ryerson Library Collaboratory this is a new library space that supports faculty-led digital learning and interdisciplinary research projects.  Located on the 3rd floor of the Library in a newly renovated space, the Collaboratory is in close proximity to the Library’s Digital Media Experience Lab in the SLC, which provides access to high end computers, 3D printers, VR/AR technologies and camera/audio equipment rentals.
  • Introducing Carol Shepstone, our new Chief Librarian – Carol is the former university librarian at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, where she helped transition the Library through periods of significant institutional change, and provided key leadership in planning the recently opened Riddell Library and Learning Centre facility.  Her career has also included leadership roles with the University of Saskatchewan Libraries and positions with both the University of British Columbia (UBC) Library system and the Museum of Anthropology at UBC. You can learn more about Carol’s appointment on Ryerson Today – welcome Carol!
