In effect, we bear witness to a grueling exercise in psychological dissection through poetic discourse. DeMatas confronts the sources that generously feed his fears, his anger, his lasciviousness, and his insecurities, and he does this in hopes of finally exorcising the metaphorical demons clutching onto his soul.

Poetry

Wordspeak

New York: iUniverse, 2008.
PS8557 .D463 W67 2008

Synopsis

Wordspeak delivers candid and subtle commentaries on both the emotional and mental mechanics through which we grind, as well as our interactions with society. Kirk DeMatas is by measures both uplifting (when he reflects on pride, faith, and the individual risk-taker) and fierce (when he critiques prejudice, racism, and other vices).
The material in this seventy-three poem collection is written from the perspective of a twenty-something individual just trying to understand himself and his place in this world, something we are all searching for.

Links

Interview with Daniel Perry of the Brockton Writers Series

Kirk DeMatas was born in Toronto. His parents immigrated to Canada from Trinidad and Tobago, and his ethnic origins includes South Asian and many others. DeMatas is a poet and author and frequently collaborates with other artists in music, film, … Continue reading →

["post-5639","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
