She earned a teaching degree at McGill Univeristy and in 1995 an M.A. in English from Concordia University. Her thesis, &#8220;Hollow Grass,&#8221; is a collection of poetry about motherhood in the context of adoption. Souaid taught at the elementary and university levels, taught high school English to adult students, and has worked as a freelance journalist and magazine columnist.
