He was born in Hong Kong and came to Canada as a child in 1953 and was raised in British Columbia by aunts and uncles.\u00a0 He is the founder of the Vancouver-based Asian Canadian Writers&#8217; Workshop and its <em>Ricepaper Magazine<\/em>.\u00a0 With collaborators, Wong-Chu edited four anthologies of Chinese-Canadian literary works:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/torontomu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/fulldisplay?vid=01OCUL_TMU:01OCUL_TMU&#038;docid=alma991000553569708636\"><em>Many-Mouthed Birds: Contemporary Writing by Chinese Canadians <\/em><\/a>(1991), <a href=\"https:\/\/torontomu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/fulldisplay?vid=01OCUL_TMU:01OCUL_TMU&#038;docid=alma991010180579708636\"><em>Swallowing Clouds: An Anthology of Chinese-Canadian Poetry <\/em><\/a>(1999), and, <a href=\"https:\/\/torontomu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/fulldisplay?vid=01OCUL_TMU:01OCUL_TMU&#038;docid=alma991010667539708636\"><em>Strike the Wok: An Anthology of Contemporary Chinese Canadian<\/em> <em>Fiction <\/em><\/a>(2003) and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/torontomu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/fulldisplay?vid=01OCUL_TMU:01OCUL_TMU&#038;docid=alma991006541669708636\">AlliterAsian: Twenty Years of Ricepaper Magazine<\/a><\/em> (2015).
