A graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada, Mouawad has been involved in the theatre in many capacities: writer, adapter, translater, actor and director. With Isabelle Leblanc, he co-founded the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre \u00d4 Parleur. From 2000-2004 he was artistic director of Montreal&#8217;s Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Quat&#8217;Sous.&nbsp;&nbsp; Mouawad was the&nbsp; Artistic Director of the National Arts Centre French Theatre, completing his tenure with the 2011\/2012 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has published more than a dozen plays and a two novels in French. Many of his plays have been translated into English. <em>Littoral<\/em> (published in English as <em>Tideline<\/em>) was made into a film in 2004 with Mouawad as co-screenwriter and as director. In 2007, his French-language play <em>Assoiff\u00e9s<\/em> was nominated for a <a href=\"http:\/\/ggbooks.ca\/home\">Governor General&#8217;s Literary Award<\/a>.
