She earned a B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature, and an M.A. in Chinese Linguistics at the East China Normal School in Shanghai. Han moved to Toronto in 1999 and taught Mandarin for both the Toronto District School Board and for the School of Continuing Studies of the University of Toronto. In 2007 she completed a Ph.D. at the University of Toronto in Second Language Education.
