Maddie Bautista is a sound designer and composer for theatre and film. Now based in Toronto\/Tkaranto, Bautista was born in Saudi Arabia to Filipino parents. The cabaret she co-developed and performed with Deanna H. Choi, Love You Wrong Time<\/em>, won two Dora Mavor Moore awards. Bautista is half of xLq \u2013 a queer pop performance duo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bautista was the co-lyricist with Donna-Michelle St. Bernard and the composer for the songs included in St. Bernard’s play The First Stone<\/em> (Playwrights Canada Press, 2025). <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Love You Wrong Time<\/em> is an uproarious, raunchy, and radically joyful song cycle from your new favourite Korean and Filipina\u2013Vietnamese musical duo. Part cabaret, part game show, part stand-up, and all heart, this flamboyant musical comedy follows two friends looking for love while navigating yellow fever, cultural stereotypes, and the fetishization of Asian femmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blending biting satire with virtuosic spectacle, the show leaps across genres\u2014from K-pop to country to Gaga-style anthems\u2014while inviting audiences to play for prizes in \u201cricebreakers\u201d and re-enactments. The book includes original sheet music as well as behind-the-scenes insights into the show\u2019s evolving creative process. Disrupting the subservient \u201cmodel minority\u201d myth, Love You Wrong Time<\/em> is a battle cry for Asians ready to make a riot, creating a space for reclamation and resistance.
