When Chippy first arrives at his Lola\u2019s house for lunch, all he can think about is his rumbling tummy, but every time he is about to take a bite of the Filipino feast he is interrupted by a member of his large family. He desperately wants to eat but they just want to talk. As his lunch keeps getting delayed and his hunger mounts, Chippy feels like he\u2019s going to explode! But as they keep talking and share memories, Chippy comes to understand food as a representation of his family\u2019s culture and their love for each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With colourful illustrations by Diana Santos, Chippy\u2019s Hungry <\/em>is a celebration of Filipino food and culture, as well as the rituals that bring families together.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A young girl\u2019s ninang (\u201cgodmother\u201d in Tagalog) has arrived for a visit, and she\u2019s thrilled! After all, Ninang isn\u2019t just the girl\u2019s godmother, she\u2019s also her very best friend. Ninang describes herself as \u201ca grown-up whose heart never grew up,\u201d which means the two get to have a day full of adventures, including blasting off into outer space and rescuing lost balloons and cats stuck in trees! Unfortunately, as with all wonderful visits, this one must come to end. Or can the girl find a way to get Ninang to stay?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
