She now lives in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Boga is a graduate of the M.F.A. program in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia. She also holds a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Oregon and a B.A. in Creative Writing from Malaspina College. Boga worked as an editor, and taught creative writing at UBC. Her ancestral heritage is Parsi. The novel opens on the day Shahnaz and her new husband, Shahrukh, depart for the United States, where both plan to do graduate work. For Shahrukh, this sojourn is merely an interlude before he resumes his life of power and privilege in Bombay.
