Sahar Golshan is a writer and educator who was raised in Scarborough, Ontario, but now lives in Mississauga, Ontario. She earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph. Golshan is a sessional lecturer at the University of Toronto, Scarborough, where she teaches creative non-fiction writing. Golshan’s roots are Teochew Chinese and Iranian. Her short documentary film KAR (2019) features her father, Mohammad, an emigrant from Iran who made a living in Canada as taxi driver and later as a driving instructor. The film won the Air Canada Short Film Award.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Rud\u0101beh (Rudy for short) loves to talk, sing, jump and shout. There\u2019s just one problem: the adults in her life are always telling her that she is SO LOUD. When her grandmother (M\u0101m\u0101n Bozorg) visits from Iran for the first time, Rudy worries that she might be too loud for her. But as she tries to be quieter, Rudy starts to feel less and less like herself. Listening closely to the many sounds in her world\u2014from husky howls and streetcar chimes to M\u0101m\u0101n Bozorg\u2019s roaring sneezes\u2014Rudy tries to figure out the full range of her own voice, discovering along the way the joy in being loud.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
