Silviano Custodio Barbosa was born in Cuncolim, Goa. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Bombay University in 1970. Barbosa immigrated to Canada in 1975 and undertook additional studies at the University of Toronto, Humber College and George Brown College. He lives in Toronto and works in the information technology field. He remains active in the Goan community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

This novel portrays the travails of a Catholic girl growing up in traditional Goa of the 1950s during the last decade of the Portuguese rule.
\nLinda Cardosa quickly loses the illusion that she lives in a close-knit community as she battles the evil of caste discrimination. She falls hopelessly in love with a foreigner, only to lose him abruptly during the Indo-Portuguese conflict of 1961.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n
