Bardia Sinaee was born in Tehran, Iran, raised in Mississauga and currently lives in Toronto. He earned an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Guelph. His poems have been published widely in Canadian magazines and anthologies. He published a couple of chapbooks prior to issuing his debut collection of poems, Intruder<\/em>, with House of Anansi Press in 2021.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Bemused and droll, paranoid and demagogic, Sinaee\u2019s much-anticipated debut collection presents a world beset by precarity, illness, and human sprawl. Anxiety, hospitalization, and body paranoia recur in the poems\u2019 imagery \u2014 Sinaee went through two-and-a-half years of chemotherapy in his mid-twenties, documented in the vertiginous multipart prose poem \u201cTwelve Storeys\u201d \u2014 making Intruder<\/em> a book that seems especially timely, notably in the dreamlike, minimalist sequence \u201cHalf-Life,\u201d written during the lockdown in Toronto in spring 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Progressing from plain-spoken dispatches about city life to lucid nightmares of the calamities of history, the poems in Intruder<\/em> ultimately grapple with, and even embrace, the daily undertaking of living through whatever the hell it is we\u2019re living through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
