Borrowing from other Canadian University Libraries
Most Canadian universities have agreed that students, staff and faculty may borrow books in person directly from each others’ libraries. TMU Library users wishing to borrow directly from another university library should present their valid library card at the Circulation Desk of that library. All policies and procedures of the lending library, including penalties and fines, will apply.
Please see the Canadian University Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement for more details regarding participating libraries and identification required. Items borrowed from out-of-province libraries must be returned directly to the individual library. TMU Library accepts returns from Ontario University libraries only. Items from other libraries may also be acquired via Interlibrary Loan.
Borrowing from U of T Libraries
The University of Toronto is not a participant in the Canadian University Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement. The following options are available for browsing and borrowing from the University of Toronto collections.
Interlibrary Loan
The Library’s InterLibrary Loan Service allows the TMU community to borrow items at no cost from other university library collections, including UTL. Print items are delivered to the Library, and content that is available digitally is delivered by email.
Stack Access/Retrieval
To browse the collection at Robarts Library, members of the TMU community may purchase either the short-term visitor stack pass ($20), or the annual Stack Access Card ($50). More information about Robarts Library Stack Access is available on the UTL website. Robarts Library has a stack retrieval service where visitors can have items pulled from the stacks for them to review.
Note that most college libraries at U of T allow public access to their collections for browsing at no cost.
U of T Library Card
To borrow from UTL, register as an external researcher – the new annual fee is $310/year, with pro-rated amounts for those who purchase part-way through the year. Reduced rates are available for seniors and U of T alumni.
